And another Christmas is past...
Dec. 26th, 2004 07:30 pmIn a lot of ways, this has been a happier Christmas for me than the last couple of years. Not only am I in a much better place in my life than I was the last few years, I'm also not surrounded by my Mormon cousins. I'm also not in a relationship that's either unequal or falling apart, and I actually have some sort of purpose in my life (which is a hell of a lot farther ahead than I was a year ago). Still have absolutely no clue how that's going to be realized, but I'm working on it. Heck, I already sound a thousand times better when I sing than I did last summer...
This year has also been somewhat saddening for me, however. The last few times I've been up here in Barrow with my mother, it's been very much my home as well as hers - I've had a room of my own and some of my old stuff here. But she moved into a smaller house at the end of last summer, and while it's a lovely little place, I don't have a room of my own and most of my stuff is either gone or in Juneau. It's really been driving home the fact that this isn't my home anymore...though at the moment, I don't think I have much of one. My dorm room is nice enough, but with dorms things always feel rather transitory...Juneau-Brian and I are very much looking forward to apartment-hunting. And decorating.
As for Christmas loot, my take was somewhat smaller than it has been in past years, but that doesn't really bother me too much. I got a couple of really nifty presents from my mother, including one of the coolest sunrise alarm clock thingummys I've seen - not only does it gradually light up to wake you up, it does nature sounds and aromatherapy. Mmm. And Juneau-Brian gave me the most wonderfully romantic presents - some beautiful white lacy lingerie, and a lacquered gold-edged red rose. Just because it's so beautiful, I'm putting up a picture of the rose.
( Ooh, preeety... )
Ironically enough, I got him a couple of nice practical presents; a white marble spice grinder, and the niftiest little measuring cup that has a graduated slope on the inside so you can see how much you're pouring in from the top rather than having to hold it up. I felt sort of bad, considering how thoughtful (not to mention pricey) his presents were, but he assures me that he likes them.
Anyway, off to make dinner out of leftovers. Yay for glazed ham!
