missroserose: (Eek!)
To anyone who is an advocate of abstinence-only sex education in schools: I suggest you take a good, long look at this community. I found it through a recent [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes about a girl who was worried about getting pregnant by taking a shower with a guy, even though there was no sexual contact. And then there's the girl who wanted to know if she could be pregnant, even though she's been on the Pill for 5 years and her boyfriend doesn't ejaculate inside her. Not to mention the guy who had unprotected sex with his girlfriend "but I pulled out and I wear tight pants and I've been smoking a lot of weed lately..."

For the love of whatever deities you believe in, this is just sad. Obviously most of these kids(?) haven't been exposed to much information from reliable sources...I don't blame them, and it's good that they're seeking help, but this is just another problem with our culture's conflicting attitudes towards sex - and the problems it creates for young people trying to figure out how it all works when their bodies are telling them one thing and their society's telling them another.

*sigh*

Note: I'm not bashing the [livejournal.com profile] amipregnant community - I think they're providing a great service, and I hope they continue to do so. I just wish our society's attitudes didn't make such services necessary..
