Feeling philosophical tonight.

The world is cruel.  The world is unfair.  The world is narrow-minded, illogical, nonsensical, frustrating and limited.

The world is kind.  The world is generous.  The world is accepting, glamorous, inspirational, uplifting and transcendent.

And in these inconsistencies, these beautiful contradictions, that strange and amazing phenomenon called "art" lies.

For those of us with eyes to see it.

You have a beautiful mind.

You need one to recognize the other.

I've always struggled with the idea of balance, though. I don't like the idea that Good and Evil need to be perfectly balanced. It seems like even if I'm on the right team, my good deeds don't mean much if they're always matched in the universe by an evil one.

This is true, and a concept I've thought about to some extent on my own. The thing is, there's never been any such thing as a perfectly balanced universe - if there were, it'd be in stasis, rather than continually evolving like it is. You look at any two opposing concepts - abstract vs. concrete, order vs. chaos, construction vs. destruction - over the course of human history, and it's obvious that things move cyclically. Sometimes the one is dominant, sometimes the other. So I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with doing our best to promote the ones we prefer. :)
