Homesickness

It's been a good year-plus since I was seriously homesick for Juneau. I can only think of one time when I truly and honestly wondered whether we'd made the right decision to move, and that was in the depths of the six-month adjustment period, when we were stuck in Sierra Vista with no real friends, mountains of debt, no job for me, and Brian's employer's perjurous qualities becoming increasingly clear.

And really, I don't think I'd trade the sun and our great house with the great view (and great rental payment) for the constant rain and dark and cold and isolation. But for some reason, reading several Juneau friends' comments about the first snow and winter, and seeing pictures of one of them baking with her adorable now-toddler son (who was barely an infant when we left), I'm feeling the sting of time lost particularly poignantly this morning.

I have these odd moments, typically when I'm out and about, where I just want to walk along the waterfront on the stretch out in front of the Prospector and wander into the state museum.

I really, really miss that museum...

I don't think I ever actually got around to visiting it. I'll have to do that when I get back for a visit. One of these days...

I get it. Completely.

There's no cure, unfortunately, other than just counting your blessings and distracting yourself with the people and things you love about your current location. Some times of year are worse than others. For me, December is the worst. Every December I long to be somewhere I'm not.

*hugs*

Yeah. And the worst part is, you know that even if you were back with your friends in whatever location soon you'd be wishing you were somewhere else. :) Such is life.

Fortunately, this year I've got planning for a bitchin' Christmas party to distract me. You should come! :D
