I'm sorry. I'm not a Beltway wonk but I do dig through the news, and I hadn't heard of her yet. From what I'm reading, that's my loss, though not as profound as yours.

Yeah, she always struck me as the one AZ politician who actually [a] gave a shit and [b] had a good head on her shoulders. True, she was a long way from seniority, but she was also savvy enough to get there, given time.
I didn't know her well or anything, but I met her once when she came by the winery; at the time I hadn't heard of her at all. Normally I would have stayed and chatted, but it was Brian's and my first anniversary and I had to get going to make our dinner reservation, so on my way out she wished me a happy anniversary. Which was enough to make me Google her and start wishing I'd taken the opportunity to chat with her a bit. Not as much as today's events, though. :/
