I have a feeling that staying in Alaska would just be avoiding the problem by being in a place where there's less strife because of greater unity of culture. The Mexican border is some way away.

The English pronunciation in English as a foreign language course types makes some sense, except for the important fact that there's an agenda behind it that isn't simply learning standard English pronunciation. Not that many people in the US teach proper English pronunciation anyway. :)
