Targeted advertising + gender stereotyping = profit!

I'm sure most of you are familiar with the sidebar ads on Facebook pages, which use the information in your profile to advertise products or services that you're more likely to be interested in. Being a young(ish) woman, I tend to get a lot of weight-loss ads, along with some sci-fi fandom communities and whatnot. (My favorite one so far? "Join our Intellectual Lesbian Community". Rather amusingly specific, but hey - that's the joy of the internet.)

So, given recent events, Brian and I have changed our relationship status on our respective Facebook profiles to "Engaged".

As a result, I've been seeing a number of ads for wedding planners, wedding photographers, wedding dress discount retailers, and, of course, the ever present "You don't want to be a fat bride, do you?" diet products.

Brian's new ads? "Exotic Dancers In Your Area."

Well, because every dude who gets engaged is looking to have at least one last fling before he ties the knot, donchaknow.

(I told him he was more than welcome to do so, but he had to invite me too. :D)

Right, because marriage is an onerous thing that means the man is sacrificing his freedom, ohnoes!

I could see you two having burlesque dancers at your pre-wedding party. Hell, you might both join the dancing!

Came here to comment on probability of you stripping at your fiancee's bachelor party, left with it already said.

:)

It wouldn't just be Rose doing the stripping, in my scenario!

If you're talking about getting her fiancee up on the pole... that's hugely unlikely and a very LOL scenario...

Or they could just be doing silly dances. I dunno.

Oy, I'm sacrificing my freedom here too, y'know. Should I hire some strippers?

Because I read this after only just getting up and before hunting down my coffee, I read this as Crippendale's dancers.

I don't think those would be very good. Paraplegic pole dancers?

Nah, I'd prefer to look at boobies, thanks.
