A post looking for advice of a risqué nature

Thanks to some digging through my LJ archives, I've suddenly realized that my poor finish-less vibrator is almost four years old. (Dye problems aside, I guess the product itself was pretty good quality.) Normally I wouldn't even bother getting a new one, thanks to Dan Savage I have a worthy cause to donate this one to, and really, it'd be nice to have one that didn't look like the outside had been eaten away by acid.

So, does anyone have any recommendations? I'd prefer something durable but not too expensive, with a decent buzz (but not Hitachi Magic Wand-strong, that's a bit much). And cool-looking if possible. ;)

Ummm, anonymize responses? ;)

Sorry, I didn't figure there were any shy folk who read my journal. =D I'll turn off IP tracking, if that's what you're worried about.

I cannot speak from personal experience, but I have heard good things about Blowfish and Toys in Babeland. Nothing was shared about individual models in my presence.

Yeah, I'm looking at Toys in Babeland right now. They have a nifty "What kind of vibe are you looking for?" guide.

You can always check out the reports that came out of the AEE (Adult Entertainment Expo) that happened at the beginning of January. Or, if you're feeling particularly evil you can check these out--my roommate mentioned the site with quite a bit of snickering involved.

I love that website. Back in high school one of my favorite phrases to just drop into casual conversation was "Baby Jesus butt plug".

I might have to check the AEE reports. Thanks for the tip.

those parties

I don't know the name of the person or company, but there's a gal who hosts those parties in town which sell those and other nifty items which sold us a pretty quality toy called "Mr Big" which is purple and very sturdy and modeled to be lifelike with veins and everything. I don't recall if it said to use alcohol but I've washed it with anti-bac soap. No loss of color or other cheapness. I had an odd-feeling moment once when I was scrubbing it with hot soapy water. It just felt wrong for some reason even though I knew it was an inorganic non-person thing. Teehee!

Awesome. =D Unfortunately, I don't really have enough of a social circle to justify throwing one of those parties...maybe I should ask my boss. She knows practically everyone.

See, here's the one place where you having a boyfriend gets in the way of an awesome joke.

Because when another female friend of mine mentioned that she needed a replacement for her vibrator, I quipped "One replacement reporting for duty, ma'am!"

(Her response, naturally, was "I have a mission for your privates!")

No problem.
You can also take a side trip to Xandie's Treasure Chest and see what she's got in and also see what she's able to order. Her parties are quite interesting from what I've heard, and honestly? I adore the fact that she and her mother run the shop--at least I seem to recall that it's her and her mom. Either way they're very cool ladies in there and they've got a good sense of humor.

I realize your post is serious...

but I just can't help myself sometimes.

Your post lacks the specifics necessary to make a very specific recommendation, such details as areas targeted, be they internal or external and the like. Whether you prefer coil types, which can have faster speed choices, or slower buzzing may also be a significant factor and each has advantages. Whether you prefer spot or broader area coverage. Knowing if there's a desire to use it on a male and where may also be of value. Is there any requirement to be cord free or resist water in shower or bath quantities? Is portability and small or tiny size accompanied by low noise levels a desirable trait?

What I actually recommend is a trip to Good Vibrations for hands-on testing of the vibrating merchandise on a visit to SF. If your local store doesn't offer this, you're deprived.

If you haven't tried a coil type yet and favor or might favor point external contact I suggest that you experiment with a Wahl coil (http://www.goodvibes.com/Item--i-1-1-AC-BE02--m-34) type.

www.passionparties.com

I kid you not, our consultant at one of these parties was a voluptuous woman named Shurrandah. It was the height of awesomeness.

Ah, well my cover's blown, I suppose. Seems like you're right -- your friends are less than shy about this stuff! If I can't beat 'em, I'll join 'em:

I like Xandria.com.

Shurrandah? Wow. That is awesome, especially if she knew how to use her voluptuousness well (which, judging from your semi-awed tone, I gather she did). Curvy women are awesome. =D

Perhaps, but your salute leaves something to be desired...=D

...Wow. Just wow.

I realize that people get off on all kinds of different things, but that has to be one of the least sexy things I have ever seen.

I think it's the tighty-whiteys that really push it over the edge. :)

[identity profile] roseneko.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I guess I was looking for broader recommendations, rather than something specifically customized, since I've only ever owned a couple in the past. I didn't figure I had a sex-toy salesperson reading. ;)

Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of service at the local shop. Maybe I should take a trip to SF...

I've heard a lot of good things about the Wahl, especially about how quiet it is. Though I've often wondered whether plug-in vibrators kill the mood when you're fumbling around for the outlet behind the bed...

Boo, hiss. :-)

An extension cord may have practical value... :)

(You know, I don't have an icon for this occasion.)

Was hopping across Digg and found a link to this article: 20 toys that don't look like...toys. Not exactly what you had in mind, I know but maybe it'll help you think outside the...er, look at things differently. :/

(This would come up in casual conversation after I break up with Heather. That girl could write an encyclopedia on the topic, I swear.)
